First Wedding Realised in Virtual World
Recently, it’s hard to find anyone unfamiliar with the concept of the Metaverse. It’s become a buzzing topic of discussion as numerous technology giants, including Facebook, have adopted the concept.
The Metaverse, being a nexus of the virtual world and real life, has experienced a unique first. A couple from the United States celebrated their wedding within this Metaverse, marking an unprecedented event.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many habits in our lives. However, we have recently witnessed another consequence of these changes; Virtual wedding.
QUARANTINE CONDITIONS PUSH THEM TO A NEW SEARCH
In the context of quarantine measures, our usual lively and extravagant weddings became a distant memory.
This situation led the American couple, Traci Gagnon and Dave Gagnon, on a new and unique journey.
A FIRST IN THE VIRTUAL WORLD
The couple truly pioneered a new path in the Metaverse. American pair, Traci Gagnon and Dave Gagnon, not only met and started their relationship in the virtual realm but also brought it to a happy conclusion there.
They embarked on a journey of love within this digital universe, culminating in a wedding that has set a new precedent in the Metaverse.
WHAT IS METAVERSE?
The Metaverse is a concept that refers to a virtual reality space where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. It’s essentially a collective virtual shared space that’s created by the convergence of physical and virtual reality, which is facilitated by networked computers.
In the Metaverse, individuals can have digital avatars and can interact with each other and the digital environment. They can play games, work, socialize, or do any number of activities that one can do in the physical world, and possibly more given the boundless possibilities of digital space.
The term Metaverse comes from the 1992 science fiction novel “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson, where humans interact with each other and software agents, in a 3D virtual space that spans the entire Earth.
As of my knowledge cut-off in September 2021, companies like Facebook (now Meta), Microsoft, and others have started to invest significantly in developing their versions of the Metaverse, believing it to be a significant part of the future of the internet and digital interaction. Metaverse aims to provide a realistic experience as technology allows.
